Latest innovations in Phytotron facility of Rijk Zwaan

4-04-2014

Certhon has completed its activities in the new phytotron building of Rijk Zwaan in Fijnaart, The Netherlands. With the realization of various growth chambers in this building, with a size of 3.200 m2, Rijk Zwaan has the latest state of the art facilities for its research activities.

The phytotron is a two story building housing several different types of growth chambers. Certhon has designed, built and furnished the growth chambers.
The climate and lighting applications can be adapted per chamber and monitored for crop research activities.

"Lighting is very crucial within research activities," explains John van der Sande, the innovator of Certhon who has been closely involved in the design of the project. "with the installation of fluorescent , HPS, HPI, and daylight lamps, a wide range of lighting types are united in this project." In addition, the climate applications like heating, cooling, humidification and CO2 dosing are extremely advanced. That ensures a wide range of research capabilities, which makes this project special."

The climate in each growth chamber can be accurately monitored and controlled from a central area in the Phytotron building. "We have given Rijk Zwaan the perfect tool to perform their research work in a meticulous manner. In this project, we have implemented our latest innovations in growth chamber technology and control." concludes van der Sande.
